Maynardville native, and Republican state senator Mike Williams, is the target of GOP speculation and scorn. The reason? Two years ago Williams along with Sen. Tim Burchett of Knoxville broke from the GOP rank and file and voted in democrat John Wilder for Lt. Gov. Now, after the recent midterms the stage is set for a repeat and Williams has yet to decide which way he’ll vote.
The rumor mill, name calling, and bloodletting has started and Williams finds himself in a very tenuous position with fellow Republicans threatening to run a primary candidate against him if he doesn’t vote their way. But with hyper-partisan sites setting up Mike Williams “watches,” as if he were public enemy number one, my guess is they’re going after him no matter which way he decides to vote.
It’s also hard to swallow that after this opinion piece in the Knoxville News Sentinel, Williams can vote his way back into favor with party hardliners.
With Mike Williams holding the position of Speaker Pro Tem in the Senate, East Tennessee and Maynardville and Union County in particular, have a lot on the line along with him. It remains to be seen not only whether a replacement candidate could rise that far in the Tennessee Senate but also whether or not such a candidate would fight for the interests of Union County.

I do not know much about what Mike has done for ET. or Union County. I have been out of his district for quite some time now.
I will say this, Donna(My Wife)and I went to school with Mike. Mike has always seemed to be an honorable Man.
I do not know Mikes reasons for voting for Wilder,Lt. Gov. . I know Mike had a reason.
This I do know:I am sick and tired of Politicians voting the party line or else, attitude. I wish we could do away with the party system.Vote American !
Just simply vote for the PERSON you agree most with, the top 2 vote getter’s, run in the Gen. Election.
To me, that is more logical and could do away with this attitude from Reb. and Dem. that even if Satan was a ? , I would vote for him! CRAP!
