Several Christian groups are urging a boycott of a video game based on the Left Behind series. The game, is a first person shooter in which players find themselves left behind after the “rapture” and must navigate a post-apocalyptic world. The goal of the game is to “convert” or kill as many non-rapture believing Christians and non-Christians as possible. Players are rewarded for both converts and kills.
An online petition urging Walmart not to sell the game can be found here.
To make matters worse, those wishing to purchase or download a demo of the game to check it out for themselves should be forewarned that spyware installs with the game. The spyware cannot be uninstalled and tracks usage and where a player goes in the game. A detailed explanation of what the spyware does is available here.
The Boston Herald has mainstream coverage and even more coverage may be found here and here.

This statement is posted from an employee of Left Behind Games on behalf of Troy Lyndon, our Chief Executive Officer.
There has been in incredible amount of MISINFORMATION published in the media and in online blogs here and elsewhere.
Pacifist Christians and other groups are taking the game material out of context to support their own causes. There is NO “killing in the name of God” and NO “convert or die”. There are NO “negative portrayals of Muslims” and there are NO “points for killing”.
Please play the game demo for yourself (to at least level 5 of 40) to get an accurate perspective, or listen to what CREDIBLE unbiased experts are saying after reviewing the game at www.leftbehindgames.com/pages/controversy.html
Then, we’d love to hear your feedback as an informed player.
The reality is that we’re receiving reports everyday of how this game is positively affecting lives by all who play it.
Thank you for taking the time to be a responsible blogger.
SJR,
Can you verify whether or not there is uninstallable spyware in the game as described at this site?
There is NO SPYWARE in the game. That was a myth perpetuated thru people who are simply making comments off of other peoples opinions. As is most of the derogatory comments regarding Left Behind Games. People blindly makeing opinions without bothering to seek out any truths.
Hey, with so many people having an opinion about this game, how many have actually played it? And what credibility do they have? Focus on the Family has publications which can set the record straight for everyone…at http://www.pluggedinonline.com.....02989.cfm.
