Apparently President Bush is quite happy for Mary Cheney and her family. According to CNN:
WASHINGTON (Reuters) — Vice President Dick Cheney’s pregnant lesbian daughter Mary will make a “fine mom,” President Bush said, sidestepping his past comment that a child ideally would be raised by a mother and father.
Mary Cheney, 37, and her longtime partner, Heather Poe, are expecting their first child, which would be the sixth grandchild for the vice president. Cheney was hired last year as an executive for America Online — whose parent company Time Warner also owns People as well as CNN.
“I think Mary is going to be a loving soul to her child. And I’m happy for her,” Bush said in an interview with People magazine.
The Washington Post reported that the baby was due in late spring.
I guess with so many republicans and evangelicals coming out of the closet acceptance for gay republicans was inevitable.
Why do you assume that The President can not seriously be happy for Cheney’s daughter?
This is just one reason why people like you are considered liberals. No matter what the President says, it’s not good or true enough.
How do you, know the President’s heart?
I thought Liberals are suppose to appreciate compassion and when the President shows compassion, it’s not the truth.
You can’t have it both ways.
At least when compassion is expressed, here is a thought, try admitting it!
Only then will you appear to be fair and balanced.
Whoever said the term Liberal was a bad thing? And some liberals do appreciate compassion, but not when it is served up with a steaming load of hypocrisy.
What I want to know is why has Bush suddenly supporting ‘the gay family’? I thought his moral and religious dictates prevented him from accepting such things, did he get a a surprise phone call from the all-mighty?
Do you agree with his option that Mary will, regardless of her sexual orientation, make a good mother? And if so isn’t it possible that other gay folks out there might be as well? And if that so then maybe just maybe the gay community isn’t the stereotype the Republa-Cons have been trying to make it out to be?
I’m actually happy that Captain ‘with us or against us’ might be learning some moderation.
