What’s Wrong With This Picture?

Truly Equal nominates the best magazine cover of the year and takes the words right out of my mouth:

“If this magazine cover does not stop you in your tracks, nothing will.”

This is one nice site you have here… thanks for linking to my blog!

If you see a victim in that picture is just shows your personal bias. I see a young man who despite limitations he did not ask for, cause or plan on is determined to drive forward with all his might. He is not looking back, playing the pity, blame game, No he is a winner. He is looking and charging forward. I don’t feel sorry for him; I admire him and his courage. I wish more Americans stopped blaming others and took some responsibility for them selves.

Truly Equal, thanks for the comment and for bringing the cover to my attention. Great entry!

Ronin, I haven’t really made much comment on the cover other than to say that it is absolutely striking. I’d much rather leave it up to readers (I included a link to the article) to decide for themselves what they think about it. One thing is for certain, the young man in question has had an incredible experience.

Jen, I did not mean you personally, please don’t take it that way. I said pretty much the same thing at several blogs which carried the same article. When that article broke, I was sickened to see people posting horrific comments like “serves him right” and some that were even worse. If the same young man would have gotten those same injuries in a motorcycle wreak those same supposedly liberal bloggers would have immediately jumped up to use him as a role model for his progressive and forward thinking. I was simply pointing out this young man is exceptional not because he was injured but because he has the willpower and drive to limit its effect on his life. We need more like him.

I don’t visit liberal sites often because I find many to be frauds. They stick to tired mantras and show no ability to think past problems and look for solutions. They claim everyone to be truely equal but when you read their blogs you find their entire focus are on narrow groups and not all of humanity. Several bloggers I will no longer even respond too as I consider them worthless haters and unable to change. I am all for protecting the underdogs of this world but I draw the line at surrendering the majority in the name of peace. Especially to a violent and controlling minority.

As long as there are Humans there will be wars. The soldiers who fight them deserve as much consideration as anyone else. To simply hate and attack them because they were injured shows not only an extremely inhumane and biased individual but makes me question how they treat those around them. No, I have no use for those types, they are shallow, callous and inhumane. I was tag surfing when I found your blog, if I thought you were a fraud I would not have returned. Believe what you want and by all means speak out about it. Just be able to back it up when called on it. I think you are doing that and doing it well. Cheers.

    Ronin,
I appreciate the response and I agree with you. There are too many people on all sides that are unthinking and cruel and who will politicize the wrong things to try and make a cheap point.

Agreed. My father served in Vietnam and my cousin just got back (he’s in Germany now) from his second tour in Iraq. Anyone that hates soldiers just because they wear a uniform is foolish to say the least. That’s not politics or well thought out ideology –it’s just an idiot using an excuse to hate someone.

I think there can be valuable critiques and dissent on all sides without the amount of savagery that I’ve seen from some people.

At any rate, thanks for the clarification and the valuable comments.

    Jen
