Plainview City Council: December

Highlights from Plainview City Council’s December Meeting

PLAINVIEW CITY HALL — Despite the holiday slowdown, the City of Plainview still managed to wrap up the year 2006 with a sale, an upgrade, and an update.

K-9 Unit Sold

The city received one bid, in the amount of $1,200.00, for the K-9 unit that was placed in surplus at last month’s November meeting. The bid, made by Randy Flatford, was approved by council after a motion from Mayor Rodney Minor that the city should accept the offer.

Mr. Randy Flatford is a Constable in Union County’s fourth district and the vehicle will be used in the course of his work.

City Upgrades Internet Service

In an effort to keep up with changing pace of technology and today’s world, the City of Plainview has decided to upgrade its internet service. The city is presently using a dial-up service that is slow and outdated. An upgraded service, that utilizes either ADSL or Broadband, will allow the city to not only free much needed phone lines, but is also expected to improve the efficiency of city offices.

The motion to upgrade the city’s service was made by Mayor Rodney Minor and seconded by Stacey Sexton.

CDBG Sewer Grant

Plainview’s paperwork for the Community Development Block Grant, or CDBG, was upgraded at this meeting. The grant will be used to fund upgrades and maintenance to the city’s sewer system and will also help with a joint project between the City of Plainview and the City of Luttrell.

In addition, Plainview City Council reviewed a letter from the City of Luttrell that affirmed Luttrell’s commitment and financial obligations to the joint project.

Other Items

– Motorists will be happy to note that Police Chief David Tripp reported a drop in the number of speeding tickets that were issued for the month of December.

However, the police chief also reported that there were still some problems regarding the vandalism of mailboxes in the city.

–There were no new building permits issued for the month of November.
