I’m starting to wonder if Bob Moser is the lone high-profile progressive that truly understands the South and its complexities. Instead of the arrogant recriminations common to outsiders looking in, Moser explodes the myths surrounding what many still refer to as red –make that redneck– state America.
From the archives, this is a post I meant to make months ago but it somehow got filed away. The information is still as fresh and as important as ever and “The Way Down South,” should be required reading for anyone that still views us all in terms of red and blue. The arrogance and idiocy involved in writing off the South as an uniform, unthinking, mass of rednecks content to eat fried chicken, watch NASCAR, and vote for Republicans is called for the bigotry it is.
Likewise, the very real question that has been long ignored by Democrats –the how did the party of the rich end up getting the middle and working classes to vote against its their own self-interests– is examined and answered.
