In a sign that Palpatine is indeed dead or at the very least a lame duck, the Senate Judiciary Committee voted 11-8 in favor of a bill that would restore habeas corpus to terrorism suspects previously denied under the Military Commissions Act of 2006. The Military Commissions Act, stripped the federal court system of jurisdiction and essentially allowed for the indefinite detention without trial of anyone the government declared a terror suspect.
The vote by the Judiciary Committee allows the bill (The Habeas Corpus Restoration Act of 2007) to be brought before the Senate and voted on.
Senator Arlen Specter was the only Republican on the committee to vote in favor of the act.

No offence, but isn’t it a sad day when we get excited that a vote of 3 won us back those rights we are (ok were) guaranteed in the 1700’s? Don’t get me wrong I am happy as a lark, but come on, had there been a a mildly interesting ballgame on the tube and we could have lost this one… again!
