What Happens When Gamers Grow Up?

Why, they call in sick when their favorite game’s highly anticipated next installment is released!

For those of you that don’t quite understand what this means, you can think of it as being similar to what researchers call the “March Madness Effect” –a time when US productivity grinds to a screeching halt due to workers sneaking off to watch their favorite teams play in the NCAA basketball tournament. Thankfully, most of the BCS football games are still played during the holidays or the entire Southeast, and likely Midwest, would come to a standstill.

If you’re still confused, you are probably European and should consider this the electronic equivalent to futbol, FIFA, World Cup, etc –whatever it is that you people play (I kid, please don’t send me “stupid American” hate mail).

So what is it that has so many 18-40 year olds calling into work and school? The release of Halo 3.

I’d tell you more but I’m not feeling so well. :)

Happy hunting.

See article in USAToday for more on the Halo Effect.
