Meh...even Krugman, who is famously biased against Obama, concedes that Obama is on the right side of the health care divide, as does Klein, who I believe is actually for Obama.

As for Ms. Obama's ties to the health care industry, I'm not aware of them. But I used to work for an insurance company myself. Even though I'm for universal, single-payer coverage (which only Denny K advocated), if I were running for office, I suppose someone would accuse me of being a tool of the insurance companies by past association. That's just politics.

The good news is that all the Dem candidates are serious about reforming our rotten health care system.

The mandate is a huge part of it but beyond that Obama's plan implies a whole lot but promises nothing. He misrepresents it as universal and leaves the door wide open for the Health Insurance Lobby.

Here's a good article:
http://www.prospect.org/cs/articles?article=a_lack_of_audacity

Further, given the attacks he's used on both the Clinton and Edwards plans I don't find his plan that relies on a whole lot of "ifs" occurring hopeful. In fact, at times he sounds like he's actually against universal health care.

Here's some of the attacks he's used on the other two plans (note that they are conservative based attacks):

Michelle Obama's ties to the health care industry don't make me feel any better. The last thing we need is another Bill Frist.

"It is the single biggest change he could make domestically and that he doesn’t support anything remotely resembling a decent health care plan makes me regard his very moderate stances on other issues with deep suspicion.

Hmmm, I agree that health care is terribly important on several levels. However, I really don't see all that much difference between the plans proposed by Obama, Edwards and Clinton. I've read them all, and there are differences here and there, particularly as regards the mandate issue. But aside from that, I don't see a huge difference. What am I missing?

Actually, what worries me is the feeling that nothing --and I mean nothing-- will hurt Obama amongst his base. It obviously doesn't apply to all supporters but there are way too many Obama supporters that seem to fall into a messianic stupor whenever his name is mentioned. That said, the point of the video is that he denies his previous support of it.

The one thing that keeps me from supporting Obama is his stance on health care. It's the single biggest issue for me as I see it entwined with our economic woes both in terms of the cost to individuals/families and our labor competitiveness. It is the single biggest change he could make domestically and that he doesn't support anything remotely resembling a decent health care plan makes me regard his very moderate stances on other issues with deep suspicion.

Oooooh, outed as a stealth proponent of single payer health care! That'll hurt him with the base. Not. ;^)
